The Manhattan Building Company was founded in Toledo in 1924. For many years the company’s holdings were concentrated in Greater Downtown Toledo. In 1995 the company began to transform itself into a more active real estate company. The company reduced its holdings in the Uptown District – located between the Central Business District and the Historic Old West End of Toledo and at the same time began to acquire properties in Arrowhead Park, the premier suburban office park in Northwest Ohio. By the end of the decade The Manhattan Building Company owned one office building in downtown Toledo and five properties in Arrowhead Park located in Maumee, Ohio.
As part of the transformation process The Manhattan Building Company entered the commercial parking business in 1996 by creating KWIK Parking to provide professional parking management services in the Toledo metropolitan area. Previously, Manhattan had leased its parking lots and garages to national parking operators. In September of that year KWIK Parking commenced operations with one location. Today KWIK Parking and its affiliate EZ Parking, LLC operate over thirty locations in Downtown Toledo. In addition to this rapid growth KWIK Parking has purchased numerous prime development sites in the downtown area from out of town investors thus returning these properties to local ownership.
The Manhattan Building Company is proud of its Toledo heritage and today continues to focus its efforts on improving the economy in Toledo and the surrounding communities.
